How to make your own hot sauce in just a few minutes

Je eigen hot sauce maken is heel simpel en in slechts een paar minuutjes gedaan

You may have noticed, but we’re quite passionate about hot sauce. That’s why we search the world for the best hot sauces to make them available to you, resulting in the largest selection of hot sauces in Europe. It’s super cool to try various flavors from producers worldwide, but secretly, nothing beats eating homemade stuff. This also applies to hot sauce, and making your own sauce is super simple and only takes a few minutes!

Making your own hot sauce

The possibilities for the flavor of your own spicy sauce are endless, of course, but we’re going for an accessible version so that even people who don’t (yet) like super spicy can enjoy it. We’ll make a delicious, fresh Mexican-style Jalapeño hot sauce. You only need a few ingredients. We’ll list the ingredients for one bottle of hot sauce for you.

Ingredients for your homemade hot sauce

  • 250 grams fresh Jalapeños (not from a jar)
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 100 grams onion, roughly chopped
  • 15 grams cilantro
  • 10 grams salt
  • 500 ml vinegar a splash of gin or tequila (optional)

Preparation method

  1. Remove the seeds from the Jalapeños. Not the seed membranes, as that’s where the heat is!
  2. Puree all ingredients in a blender until the sauce reaches the desired smoothness.
  3. The sauce is actually ready at this point, but you can add another step if you want the sauce to be slightly less spicy and preserve it longer: after blending, put the sauce in a small pan and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, optionally adding a splash of gin or tequila. You’ll also notice that the green color darkens as it simmers.
  4. Pour the sauce into bottles or jars.
