Meet the Makers: Bravado Spice Co.
More and more people are getting to know the wonderous world of hot sauce, but most don’t know much about the creators of these delicious sauces. Who are those heroes behind the brands that spoil us with the best hot sauces? We are about to find out in our interview series ‘Meet the Makers’.
Bravado Spice Co
This name should mean something to every hot sauce fan by now. In our webshop it’s one of the more popular brands and the Black Garlic & Reaper hot sauce was even a top 5 hot sauce in 2021. Furthermore, they are of course known from Hot Ones, in which they have already had 3 hot sauces. We knew early on that Bravado had to be part of our range and they have been for 4 years now. That means it’s past time to get to know them even better and we’ll do that through our standard set of questions. One of the owners, James (with the thumbs up in the Instagram post down below), answers them.
When & what was your first hot sauce experience?
When I was 10 years old. We had a Chile Pequin bush in my backyard and I ate a pepper to see what would happen. Needless to say I loved it and started exploring hot sauces and salsas.

What drove you to start your own brand?
Food has always been a core passion of mine and hot sauces have always been a staple in my home. My mother was an infamously bad cook, so I had to eat a lot of hot sauce.
How did you come up with the name?
When starting our company, my business partner I wanted a name that perfectly encapsulated what we were trying to achieve. We were brand new to the game, inexperienced and running off determination and bravado.
What is your favorite ingredient?
Garlic. There is never enough.
What is the ultimate highlight up until now?
It’s impossible to pin this down to one instance. I’d have to say seeing our product on a retailer shelves for the first time and watching a customer grab one.

What is your favorite hot sauce brand, other than yours?
Char Man. I love everything that Chris does.

Cannibal Corpse – Hammer Smashed Face,
anything by Lorna Shore
anything by Lana del Rey
Amon Amarth – Put Your Back Into the Oar
Kalmah – Heroes to Us
Name 1 food + (your own) hot sauce combination our followers just have to try.
Without a doubt, Serrano & Basil Hot Sauce added to an Italian-inspired eggs benedict with prosciutto & arugula
