Meet the Makers: Queen Majesty Hot Sauce
More and more people are getting to know the wonderous world of hot sauce, but most don’t know much about the creators of these delicious sauces. Who are those heroes behind the brands that spoil us with the best hot sauces? We are about to find out in our interview series ‘Meet the Makers’.
Queen Majesty Hot Sauce
We have already conducted a number of interviews with the best hot sauce makers out there and the ‘Queen’ should not be missing ofcourse. Queen Majesty’s sauces have been available at our shop for a long time and have been among the most popular sauces since the start. If you’ve read our Staff Picks, you might even know that two of the three Queen Majesty sauces are our all-time favorites. Those two sauces are also known from Hot Ones. They are made in New York City by Erica, who is also the owner & founder of the brand and she is a reggae DJ! Luckily she found some time to answer our 10 questions.

When & what was your first hot sauce experience?
I grew up in Buffalo, New York and my first experience has to be Frank’s on some wings. I think everyone in Buffalo has a bottle of Frank’s in their fridge.
What made you decide to start your own brand?
I eat hot sauce every day and on everything, but I couldn’t really find hot sauces I absolutely loved in the stores. I used a lot of Tapatio, but it wasn’t hot enough. El Yucateco was good for the heat, but wasn’t a fan of the ingredients. Meanwhile, I’ve been making my own sauce for years and I thought other people would like that extra option too.
How did you come up with the name of your brand?
I’ve been DJ’ing under the name Queen Majesty for a very long time. I decided to use that name for the hot sauces as well, since it was an alias and also very feminine.
What’s your favorite ingredient to work with (other than peppers, of course)?
I just love vinegar and citrus. And salt & black pepper.
What does your workspace look like?
Here you can see some pictures of the working space at Queen Majesty and some team members who work hard to create the hot sauces we all love. At the next question you’ll get an even better look inside the kitchen, with none other than Sean Evans!
What’s the ultimate highlight so far?
Honestly, any time someone takes time out of their day to write to us and let us know how much they like our sauces. That really keeps us going and that is our whole point for all of our hard work. And although I was nervous, making hot sauce with Sean Evans in our kitchen was very fun (video below).
What is your favorite hot sauce from another brand?
This is a really hard question because I respect so many fellow makers! You have a lot of great options in your store.
What is your favorite music for when you’re making/eating hot sauce?
Soul Leaders – Pour On The Sauce
Jackie Mittoo – Hot Tamale
Lennie Hibbert – Real Hot
Errol Dunkley – Little Way Different
Yaadcore – Ready Now
Name 1 food + (your own) hot sauce combination our followers just have to try.
Mix honey with our Queen Majesty Scotch Bonnet & Ginger hot sauce and drizzle on fried chicken (or air-fried fake chicken, like me).
We want to thank Erica for taking the time to answer our questions and ofcourse for making incredibly tasty hot sauces! Here you can find all Queen Majesty hot sauces. Also, if you want to read more stories behind the sauce makers you can check out all our ‘Meet the Makers’ interviews here!
